The Lakeshore Nature Preserve is a popular location for photographers. Personal and portrait photography is allowed as long as all visitor etiquette and photography guidelines are followed. We kindly ask portrait photographers to consider an annual $50 donation to the Lakeshore Nature Preserve Preservation Fund.
Photography guidelines:
- Photographers and clients must stay on trails at all times.
- No trampling, picking, or collecting flowers, leaves, or boughs. No disturbing animals.
- Photographers must stay with their props and equipment at all times.
- Photographers cannot restrict areas to the visiting public.
- Photographers and clients must follow visitor etiquette.
- Faculty, staff, and students needing special considerations for educational purposes are asked to apply for a Use, Teaching, & Research Permit.
Commercial Photography and Video
Stock and commercial photography requires advance arrangements with the university. Projects involving commercial or stock photography and/or videography (such as photos taken for publications, catalog shoots, commercials, professional videos, and the like) should contact the Office of Strategic Communications to review campus commercial use policies.
Drones
For safety and privacy reasons, drone operations by students, employees, or visitors for recreational or hobbyist purposes are not permitted on UW-Madison premises. There is a drone-use approval process for research and instructional purposes. Please refer to the UW-Madison Drone Use Policy.
