Public Meeting July 16, 5pm – Temin Lakeshore Path Study

Your input is requested for Temin Lakeshore Path study looking at potential impacts of proposed paving and lighting of the path from Willow Creek to the UW Limnology Building. This feasibility study stems directly from a task force convened in 2022 to discuss the issue, following reports of perceived safety risks for navigating the path at night.

The consultants, Damon Farber Landscape Architects, are asking for input through a survey link and at a public information meeting on Tuesday July 16 from 5:00-8:00 pm at the Memorial Union (800 Langdon St). There will be a presentation at 5:00 pm and 6:30 pm. Please see the attached flyer for further information.

Take the Survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/lakeshorepathstudy (The survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete.)

Currently, the project does not include an environmental impact statement. We ask you to contribute your thoughts and expertise.

Potential Issues to Consider:

  • Alterations to insect communities, nearshore aquatic communities, and other wildlife-related interactions.
  • Water quality, storm water management and erosion, which are current issues for the limestone path as well.
  • Archaeological site disturbance considerations. (a separate input meeting is being held with UW Native Nations)
  • Changes to the character of the site.
  • Winter management for pedestrian/bike access.
  • Attracting increased night use and undesirable activities in an area which portions are not easily accessible.
