Prairie Seed Mix

This prairie seed mix contains early-successional species for quick establishment. Most of the species are perennials and once established will come back year after year. Plant in medium to dry soils with full sun.

Keep the seed in a cool, dry site until ready to plant. We suggest that you plant your seeds in the fall after October 15 because many seeds require cold, damp conditions to break dormancy. You can also plant in the spring before June 15.

The seeds in the packet will cover approximately 5 square feet. Prepare a planting area by removing existing weeds. Soil-seed contact is critical; however, do not plant the seed any deeper than inch or it will not survive! To care for your prairie planting in the first year, cut weeds to remove competition. If watering, do it consistently until germination is complete (usually less than 3 weeks).
