Benches

Since the Preserve stretches along more than four miles of Lake Mendota shoreline from the Memorial Union to Eagle Heights Woods, it's possible to take quite a long round-trip walk within its borders. Along the way, it's pleasant to take a break from time to time to catch one's breath and take in the beauty of the surroundings. Although UW managers have generally tried to keep the physical infrastructure of the Preserve to a minimum in order to maintain its natural qualities, they have installed benches in a few locations to make it easier for visitors to take a restful pause in this lovely place. Most of these benches were given by generous donors whose gifts have enhanced everyone's experience of the Lakeshore Nature Preserve.
